Mizoram's Mamit district bordering Bangladesh and Tripura, is making significant strides in development with a Rs 19 crore boost from
Niti Aayog, bolstered by various central and state-backed initiatives.
State chief secretary Khilli Ram Meena, reviewed the district's progress during his visit on Saturday, where he held a meeting with officials at the DC Conference Hall under the leadership of deputy commissioner K Laltlawmlova. Meena urged officials to take a strategic and holistic approach to development, ensuring that govt schemes effectively reach the people. Stressing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, he called for greater efficiency and commitment in implementing key projects.
The CS also underlined the role of children's upbringing and education in shaping the district's future. He emphasised the need for close monitoring of how children spend their time at home and in schools, stating that well-structured childhood development plays a crucial role in long-term progress.
Laltlawmlova provided an overview of Mamit district, highlighting its population of 1,01,290, an area of 3,025sqkm, and a literacy rate of 84.93%. The district comprises 20,902 households.
Mamit has made notable progress under the aspirational districts programme, securing Rs 19 crore in funding based on its improved performance across multiple sectors. The district now ranks 5th in overall performance among aspirational districts.
To further boost development, Mamit is leveraging funds from key schemes, including North Eastern Council, NESIDS-ODRI, National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm, Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Nagar Van Yojana, Housing for All, 15th Finance Commission, MGNREGA, PMAY, PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, and PM Matsya Sampada Yojana.
