PANAJI: “Tanmay Bhat will not be allowed to perform anywhere in Mumbai or Maharashtra. We will beat him up if we see him,” said vice president,
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Ameya Khopkar on Friday.
Speaking at the inaugural of the Goa Marathi film festival in Panaji, Khopkar lashed out at the comedian’s snapchat video that mocked singer
Lata Mangeshkar and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
“Tanmay Bhat cannot be pardoned on a mere apology. He should be arrested immediately. We will not let any kind of
Tanmay Bhat show to take place in Maharashtra. If we spot him anywhere, we will protest in
manase (MNS) style.” he said.
Tanmay Bhat’s controversial snapchat, captioned ‘Sachin vs Lata Civil War’ evoked strong protests from MNS, Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP.
“If we stop one Tanmay Bhat, no other Tanmay Bhat will be born. But if we pardon him, many other Tanmay Bhats will be born,” said Khopkar. He further added that the MNS will not let Tanmay Bhat “roam in Mumbai, even on the roads”.
Goa police said that as the MNS has threatened to assault Bhat in Mumbai and Maharastra, it is out of its jurisdiction.
