MAPUSA: A Russian national lodged at Colvale jail was injured after he was assaulted by a fellow inmate. Mapusa police have booked eight inmates in this regard.
Mapusa police Jailor Krishna Usgaonkar lodged a complaint on late Friday night stating that on March 1 at around 11.20am, a fight was reported between inmates who were waiting at the prison dispensary.
Police informed that inmates were waiting in line to visit the dispensary when the Russian national, Ilia Alexsandrovich Shtennikov and other inmates got into argument which led to the scuffle. The victim was allegedly trying to jump the queue where the inmates were already waiting for their turn. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at GMC for injuries.
Following a compliant, police have registered an offence against Dayashankar, Babu Arolkar, Caji, Ashvek, Joseph, Vijay Patole, Umesh Rathod and Suresh Shetye for forming unlawful assembly, wrongfully restraint and assault. PSI Paresh Ramnathkar is investigating the case.
Police sources said that victim is one among the four Russians held for ATM theft and narcotic crimes at Mandrem a week ago.
