Panaji: Representatives of different women’s groups in the state met DGP Alok Kumar recently and asked for the resumption of regular meetings between the groups and top police officers to suggest measures from time to time for the improvement of women’s safety.
The DGP asked DIG Varsha Sharma to discuss the implementation of the structured meetings with women’s groups, said Sabina Martins of Bailancho Saad.
“Representatives of Goa women’s organisations met DGP Alok Kumar and DIG Varsha Sharma to suggest the restart of regular meetings with NGOs and stakeholders on crimes against women,” Martins said.
“DGP Kumar was positive and proactive. DIG Sharma then conversed with the representatives and quick decisions were taken.”
She said the DIG suggested the usage of the QR code across police stations in Goa through which feedback can be sent to her by any woman facing difficulty.
“It was additionally discussed that a WhatsApp group comprising the DIG, specific personnel under her, women’s organisations, and key citizens concerned active on the ground will be formed to have a quick response mechanism when issues are routinely faced at police stations by women,” Martins said.
She added, “A meeting has been scheduled for Feb 25 at the police headquarters where the women’s groups have been asked to bring in writing specific issues and/or cases and procedural lapses observed and complaints raised, notably over the past three months.”
