Man killed for eating chicken 1st, bro-in-law held
Ponda: A fight between two Jharkhand men over who should eat chicken first led to a murder at a rented home at Shirantar-Codar on Monday evening. Police arrested Devid Tapoo, 40, while he was trying to flee late in the night after killing his brother-in-law, Deepak Tirkey, 27.Police have dismissed enmity as a motive, with prima facie evidence centring on a fight that apparently broke out over chicken. Tapoo had bought the chicken and Tirkey cooked it and served himself a portion.Seeing him eat the chicken before he could, Tapoo demanded that he be served. But Tirkey told him to help himself. This angered Tapoo. The ensuing scuffle escalated, leading to the suspected murder of Tirkey with a sharp weapon, police said, adding that the weapon was, however, not found at the scene of the crime.
Hearing the noise of the duo’s fight, the house owner, Shrikant Umarye, informed the police control room. However, before police could reach the crime scene, Tirkey was killed and was lying in a pool of blood, and Tapoo had disappeared.“Police teams immediately tracked Tapoo, who was spotted at Khandepar walking towards Ponda town to flee from Goa. He was nabbed and taken to the Ponda police station,” police said.Further, police said, the accused was officially arrested on Tuesday morning and the procedure was thereafter launched to seek his custody.Tapoo was taken to a Ponda court on Tuesday afternoon, and a case was registered against him at the Ponda police station. The accused has been remanded in 10 days of police custody.
