CCP to beautify St Inez cemetery

Continuing its efforts to redevelop and beautify burial grounds in the city, councillors from the corporation of the city of Panaji, local MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker and a team of architects led by Rahul Deshpande conducted a visual inspection of the St Inez Catholic cemetery, which is part of the St Inez Church.

Panaji: Continuing its efforts to redevelop and beautify burial grounds in the city, councillors from the corporation of the city of Panaji, local MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker and a team of architects led by Rahul Deshpande conducted a visual inspection of the St Inez Catholic cemetery, which is part of the St Inez Church. The visit also gains importance as All Souls Day is drawing close.

All Souls Day, celebrated on November 2, is a day of prayer for the dead.
Among the various suggestions voiced by the stakeholders was the creation of uniform arrangements, proper lighting, cleanliness, a retaining wall along the Altinho hill to prevent soil erosion and landslides and landscaping of the cemetery in order to make it a welcoming place.
Project architect Rahul Deshpande was present and gave inputs on how the cemetery could be given a uniform look.
CCP mayor ShubhamChodnakar, who was also present, took stock of the preparations for All Souls Day and was seen issuing instructions to get faulty equipment fixed.
The CCP is making efforts to create an integrated burial and cremation ground that will cater to the needs of Hindus, Muslims and Christians. The project, envisioned by the Goa state urban development corporation, will be set up on the existing cemetery and crematorium that the civic body runs.
