31 shops sealed in Erode

ERODE: Erode Municipal Corporation (EMC) officials on Monday locked and sealed 31 shops for their failure to pay rent for months.
There are 283 shops in Abdul Kani Commercial Complex managed by the civic body. As many as 203 of these shops haven’t paid rent consistently, with 56 of them having not paid rent for several months.
A special team, led by corporation revenue officer Sivakumar, was formed to recover the outstanding rent, which totalled to around Rs 2.75 crore.
"We issued notices to the relevant shop owners two weeks ago," Sivakumar stated, noting that 31 shop owners had not responded. So, the officials sealed these 31 shops on Monday.
The officials indicated that the sealing process would continue.
