No protests at Karbala ground on March 31: High court

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Friday barred the holding of a protest at Karbala near Jor Bagh here on March 31, and said such demonstrations be held at designated places like Ramlila Maidan, Jantar Mantar after taking permission.
Justice Manmohan passed the order on a plea by a B K Dutt Colony resident, as well as Delhi Police who have opposed the proposed demonstration saying it could pose a law and order problem.The area had witnessed violent protests in the past over the issue of ownership of the Karbala land on which a nursery has been built. The petition, moved by Avatar Lal Gill, has alleged that violent protests had erupted in the area recently.
