NEW DELHI: For CV Aradhana, law is not just study of the legal nuances, but also how it touches the everyday lives and what can be done to make it more human. She was one of the five recipients of the 25 gold medals awarded to BA LLB (H) graduates during the NLU Delhi convocation on Saturday.
A total of 81 BA LLB, 39 LLM and two PhD degrees were awarded to students by vice-chancellor Ranbir Singh in the presence of Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, Chief Justice of India, and several other dignitaries.
Another five cash prizes were awarded, including one to Aradhana.
Aradhana, the daughter of a special educator and an advertising executive, from Bengaluru, bagged 11 gold medals for her academic performance and is the second in the university to have bagged such a high tally. She has already secured a spot in the Oxford University for a bachelor of Civil Law.
The importance of her role as a budding lawyer dawned on her during the interaction with the death row convict. “It was just a 2-3 hours interaction, and it turned out to be an eye opener. He told me that the laws are made by people sitting in airconditioned rooms, but those laws affect real people.”
Proud of the passing out batch, Singh declared, “There are 22 law schools in the country, and I am asked which one is the best. It’s a difficult answer because I have been a part of the top three, but I can say that NLUD is second to none” .
Outgoing Chief Justice of India, Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar too inspired the students to think beyond the lines. “Once your teachers have taught you, it is up to you what you achieve. If you are hardworking enough, you can do whatever you desire,” he said, adding a lawyer who does not empathise with the society can never be a good lawyer.
