AAP Govt Turned Delhi Into A Garbage Dump, Says Yogi
New Delhi: Alleging that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal committed the "crime" of converting the Yamuna into "a dirty drain", Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday challenged him to take a dip in the river's water.
Yogi said: "Yesterday, I, along with all my ministers, took a holy dip at the Sangam in Prayagraj where the Maha Kumbh is on. I want to ask Kejriwal whether he, along with his minister, can bathe in the Yamuna in Delhi. He should answer if he has any moral courage."
"For the current Delhi govt, the Yamuna was never a priority. Arvind Kejriwal is responsible for the deterioration of the sacred river," he added.
Yogi spoke at public gatherings in Kirari, Karol Bagh and Janakpuri.
The UP CM further alleged that AAP govt was helping illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingya take refuge in the capital and also accused the party of instigating northeast Delhi riots.
"With the help of Bangladeshi infiltrators, their (AAP) councillors and officials together instigated riots in 2020. They created chaos and hooliganism in Shaheen Bagh," Yogi said.
On illegal immigration, he alleged, "In the areas around Jamia Millia Islamia, AAP officials have helped Bangladeshi illegal immigrants settle in Okhla. As the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, I sent bulldozers to clear the land of these infiltrators. There is zero tolerance for illegal immigrants in UP."
Yogi also accused AAP of turning Delhi into a "garbage dump" and neglecting essential services. "Delhi's Okhla industrial area is in a shambles," he said. "While AAP hindered industrial growth, they facilitated the settlement of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh's New Okhla region (Noida) is a prime example of development."
On the contrast between Delhi and neighbouring areas like Noida and Ghaziabad, he added, "If you look at areas like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, people are increasingly moving out of Delhi. Why? Because their infrastructure is far superior. If you compare the roads and the overall development, the difference is stark."
"Ten years ago, Delhi was seen as the ideal model of development. But today, I cannot say the same. The condition of the roads is horrible. When I see the garbage heaps, plastic littered everywhere, and sewer lines flowing on the streets in Delhi, it is alarming. And this is happening in Jan. When Feb comes and the tanker mafia becomes more dominant, the situation will worsen," Yogi claimed.
In Karol Bagh, the air was thick with anticipation as thousands of supporters packed the Dev Nagar area, climbing trees and squeezing into every available space, their eyes fixed on the stage where Yogi was set to speak. The crowd's electricity was palpable, with each whisper of his imminent arrival triggering thunderous cheers that echoed through the densely populated neighbourhood.
When Yogi finally took the stage, he began with a quip that instantly connected with the crowd. "Sorry I'm an hour late. It's because I couldn't tell whether there's a pothole in the road or the road is in the pothole," he said, drawing roaring laughter from the assembled supporters.
The UP CM also claimed that AAP was banking on its "ATM of lies" this election and reminded the public about the women supporters and the party's promise to them. "A delegation of women all the way from Punjab came to Delhi to question the govt's failure to deliver on their Rs 2,100 promise. Don't be fooled by their claims. They have not kept their word," he stated further.
