2-year-old girl run over by teen driver in central Delhi

NEW DELHI: A two-year-old girl died after being run over by a car allegedly driven by a 15-year-old boy in central Delhi's Paharganj on Monday.
Police took the boy's father, who has a plywood business, into custody, but he was later released on bail.
According to police, the child was playing outside her house in Ram Nagar around the evening when the accident took place, and Nabi Karim police station got the information around 6.15pm.

"The injured girl was hospitalised, but succumbed to her injuries. Police found that the car was being driven by a 15-year-old boy, the son of the vehicle's owner who is a neighbour of the victim's family," DCP (central) M Harsha Vardhan said.
In the CCTV footage, a girl was seen playing near her house with toys while some men were sitting outside on chairs. A black compact SUV driven by the minor approached in the narrow lane, stopping briefly just metres away from the child sitting on the ground. The car then moved forward, running her over with its left tyre. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to help.
A case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police are investigating how the teenager gained access to the vehicle and whether any negligence was involved on the part of the parents. The victim's father owns a bag manufacturing unit.
In Feb, an 18-month-old child died allegedly after a speeding car driven by a 15-year-old boy hit him at Mukhmelpur village in Alipur in outer Delhi. The minor allegedly lost control of the speeding vehicle, which first rammed a parked car and then hit the child who was playing near another car outside his house. The teenager attempted to flee, but was caught by locals and handed over to police.
