Roorkee: A 28-year-old man, accused of raping a 9-year-old girl in Landaura town under the Manglaur area, has been arrested, police said on Thurdsday. The accused, believed to be a relative of the victim, had been absconding since the incident occurred on Sunday.
Police said the man allegedly lured the girl from a local market by offering her snacks and took her on his motorcycle to a secluded orchard near a school, where he allegedly raped her. He also attempted to silence her by offering money and urging her not to speak about the assault.
The child's family began searching for her after she failed to return home for several hours. She was eventually found in an unconscious state. Following a complaint, a medical examination was conducted.
A case was registered under BNS sections 137(1) (kidnapping), 65(2) (rape of a minor under 16), 74 (outraging modesty) and 76 (criminal force with intent to disrobe) and the
Pocso Act.
"The accused had fled the scene after committing the crime. Based on CCTV footage and other critical leads, we arrested him on Thursday," said SHO Shanti Kumar Gangwar.
