Three stalls encroaching upon Coimbatore corporation’s land evicted
Coimbatore: As part of its drive against encroachment, the city corporation on Tuesday removed three stalls encroaching on its 45 cent of land opposite the KG Hospital on Art College Road at Race Course. A stall run by Tan Tea was spared as it has approval till March 31. A stall run by Aavin was also not evicted as officials claimed that it has been installed with proper permission.
"If they fail to provide us with proper documents, the Aavin stall will also be removed," a corporation official said.
The land will be used as a parking lot once the encroachments are removed. "This land will be converted into a parking lot at an estimate cost of Rs 5 crore. The parking lot could accommodate 200 two-wheelers," the official said. The parking lot is expected to reduce traffic congestion at Race Course.
The renewal of the stall run by Tan Tea will be considered after presenting it for the council approval.
The unauthorised extension of three petty shops has been evicted.
Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran said the civic body has identified a seven-acre land at Thomas Park to be converted into a parking space.
He said, "The corporation has requested the district administration to give 3 acres behind the 108 Selva Vinayagar temple for parking space."
The corporation also removed extended ramps of shops at Race Course. The reclaimed space will be fixed with paver blocks so that public can use it for parking their vehicles.
The civic body plans to establish a parking system on Raja Street Townhall. A DPR is being prepared to seek funds from the state govt for the parking system.
