CHENNAI: A gang killed a 37-year-old repeat offender, disposing of his head in Guduvanchery near the house of a woman he was having an affair with.
Police identified the victim as Kamalakannan of Kadapperi near Tambaram. He had been facing two cases of attempted murder and assault in Peerkankaranai, Selaiyur and Tambaram police limits.
On Saturday night, Kamalakannan left house around 11pm saying he had received an important call.
“Kamalakannan did not return till Sunday morning and Sudha, his partner, discovered that his vehicle had been abandoned at the flyover in Chromepet,” said an investigating officer.
She immediately lodged a complaint with the local police, who filed a missing persons case.
Meanwhile, the Guduvanchery police received information early on Sunday that a man’s decapitated head had been found in the middle of
Rajiv Gandhi Street in Urapakkam. Police rushed to the spot, bagged the head and set about identifying the victim.
“We searched for the body but could not find it anywhere in the vicinity. The head was kept at Chengalpet government hospital,” said an officer. Sudha confirmed that it was Kamalakannan’s head.
The Guduvanchery police said the head was found near the house of Amudha, with whom Kamalakannan had a relationship. Preliminary investigations revealed that another rowdy, Mahendran, from the same locality, had earlier been in a relationship with Amudha. Kamalakannan befriended Amudha when he tried to sort out the pair’s problems.
Police suspect that Mahendran killed Kamalakannan and dumped the head near Amudha’s house. Investigations revealed Kamalakannan also had an old feud with two men from the locality the Paulraj and Udaya . Police have not ruled out the possibility of their involvement in the murder.
“We are also investigating Kamalakannan’s friends,” the officer said. Kamalakannan and Sudha have a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter.
