CHANDIGARH: A man accused of extortion was paraded in a skirt by police in Rewari, Haryana Thursday.
This is the second such incident in the district.
Police said the accused, Rohit alias Kalia, allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman.
After arresting him, the CIA team, instead of taking the police vehicle, made him walk.
His head was tonsured and he was made to wear a skirt and walk for nearly a km-and-a-half stretch from the old grain market through the main market to Moti Chowk with his handcuffs on.
Police cited non-motorable roads and the heavy rush in the market as the reason for parading him.
Police said besides facing trial in many criminal cases, the accused also served 12 years in prison for a heinous crime and came out of jail recently.
Earlier, cops had paraded a gang of thieves.
