Chandigarh: The fifth edition of ROTTO PGIMER Transplant Games 2025 concluded on Sunday, bringing together over 300 transplant recipients and organ donors in Chandigarh. Held at Sector 7 Sports Complex, the two-day event showcased resilience, hope, and the life-changing impact of
organ donation.
Organised by PGI in collaboration with Organ Transplant Trust, ROTTO North, and other partners, the games featured participants across two age categories — under 40 and over 40. The event included competitive sprints, badminton, javelin throws, race-walks, and tug-of-war, with many participants overcoming life-threatening organ failure to demonstrate remarkable athleticism.
Chief guest Rajpal, former captain of the national hockey team, highlighted the significance of organ donation, likening it to the passing of the baton in a relay race — emphasising the enduring impact of giving life to others. Dr Anil Kumar, director of NOTTO, stressed the need for a stronger deceased donor programme to bridge the gap between organ demand and availability in India.
The event also honoured donor families for their selfless contributions, with Prof Vipin Koushal of PGI calling them the ‘bedrock' of the cadaver donation programme. Inspirational stories from participants, including kidney recipient and professional bodybuilder Digvijay Singh, and heart transplant recipient Preeti, who won silver in badminton, underscored the transformative power of organ donation.
The games also provided a platform for transplant recipients aiming for the World Transplant Games, offering motivation and confidence. The event concluded with a heartfelt tribute to donor families and a renewed focus on raising awareness for organ donation, a cause that continues to save lives across India.
