Mustard weight reduction and gunny bag shortage spark farmer protests in Jind
JIND: Bhartiya Kisan Union (Bhakiyu) held a protest at the new grain mandi to press for their demands and met with officials to seek their attention toward the issue in Jind district on Thursday. Farmers accused that there are discrepancies in the weighing of mustard and also raised concerns that while wheat procurement had begun, gunny bags had still not been provided. They also demanded better arrangements for drinking water in the mandi.
Farmers gathered at the gate of Jind New Grain Mandi where BKU’s national vice president Ramphal Kandela led the protest. The farmers informed that while mustard procurement is happening, the lifting is not being done on time. Additionally, discrepancies were being observed in the weighing process, with the weight of the mustard being reduced. The state government should look into the matter seriously to resolve the issue promptly else BKU will launch the massive protest, said Kandela.
