JALANDHAR: Even as two gangsters have been arrested by police claiming that they were involved in firing at Kapurthala deputy jail superintendent Vikramjit Singh Painthe, he has said there was larger conspiracy behind the attack on him and real conspirators should be exposed in police investigation.

He alleged there could be other forces who used them for attacking him. Both were arrested from house of another criminal in Sant Nagar area of Jalandhar.
He also said that he had received a phone call in which the caller had told him about the conspiracy and he had given details of the conversation to Jalandhar commissionerate of police top brass. Painthe is known for tightening noose around drug peddlers in Kapurthala jail. Sources revealed that major drug racketeers who were operating inside and outside the jail for supply of drugs were very uncomfortable with his strictness.
Despite being attacked, Painthe has not been given any Punjab police security. On Wednesday too when he came to the hospital in Jalandhar for removal of stitches, he was accompanied by two guards from the jail staff. When asked, Jalandhar deputy commissioner of police Rajinder Singh said they were still questioning the accused and all details were not yet out.
