BCs seek higher quota in local bodies

Hisar: Chairman of the Haryana Backward Classes Commission and retired judge of Punjab and Haryana high court Justice Darshan Singh and members of the commission, Shyam Lal Jangra and SK Gakkar, on Monday held a public meeting with the representatives of backward classes from Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Jind districts on reservation in urban local bodies.
The representatives of the backward classes demanded 48% to 55% reservation, citing the data obtained from an RTI which suggested that at present, there were 25% councilors from the backward classes in the state in various local bodies.
The chairman of the Haryana Backward Classes Commission said all the suggestions received by the commission would be studied and then recommendations would be sent to the Haryana Election Commission through the government.
