Hisar: The Haryana Police ACP Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has raised objections over the recent directive withdrawing the assured career progression (ACP) scale for the constables and the exempted head constables (EHC).
Led by state president Dinesh Siwach, the delegation met chief minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Sunday and submitted a memorandum, seeking his intervention. Following the meeting, the CM sought clarification from the director general of police (DGP) regarding the rationale behind the ACP cuts and assured the Samiti of appropriate action.
Siwach, who is also the former president of the Haryana Police Association in Hisar, said nearly 3,500 police personnel joined the protest against the order. According to the memorandum, senior police officials had issued directives for the revocation of the ACP benefits for personnel who did not clear the departmental examination.
Previously, under the older regulations, police personnel who failed the departmental test were eligible for the ACP benefits at 10, 20, and 30 years of service, later revised to eight, 16, and 24 years. The recent order affected several officers, including those assigned to the security of the CM and other ministers. The Samiti also highlighted the stark difference in the salaries of the Haryana police personnel and their counterparts in Punjab, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
Police officers have long been demanding parity in pay scales.
The withdrawal of ACP benefits is seen as a setback, with each affected officer facing a potential salary reduction of Rs 15,000 per month and a recovery of up to Rs 15 lakh from the past payments. The move could leave many officers with as little as Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 in take-home pay.
On March 11, the Sangharsh Samiti met former CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, urging him to raise the issue in the state assembly.
