NIT-R holds candlelight march for Pahalgam victims

ROURKELA: Students, faculty and staff of NIT Rourkela organised a candlelight march on Saturday evening as a tribute to the victims of Pahalgam terror attack.
A press release issued by the institute on Sunday said the programme began at 6:45 pm at the student activity centre (SAC) by observing a two-minute silence.
Following this, NIT-R director Prof K Umamaheshwar Rao addressed the gathering. "Such senseless acts of violence shake the very foundations of our humanity. On behalf of NIT Rourkela, I extend heartfelt condolences to the families who have suffered unimaginable loss. We stand with them in this hour of grief. May the departed souls rest in peace, and may our collective prayers give strength to their loved ones," he said.
Registrar Rohan Dhiman and dean of student affairs, Niranjan Panda, also expressed grief.
The NIT Rourkela fraternity then lit candles and conveyed their condolences following which they walked together in a solemn procession, carrying the candles.
Rajeev Panda, president of SAC, emphasised the importance of compassion and solidarity in times of tragedy.
