Rourkela: Plantsite police arrested a 44-year-old labourer Thursday for allegedly murdering his co-worker, who refused to give him money for alcohol, in Gandhi Road area Wednesday night.
The accused, Sanjay Ravidas from Bihar, is currently residing in Gandhi Road, allegedly killed Sudeep Kar (37) by slitting his throat while the victim was sleeping on a roadside verandah. Police recovered the murder weapon, a sharp-edged knife, from the accused.
IIC, Plantsite police station, B K Pradhan said both the accused and the victim, who worked as labourers, were alcoholics and had been drinking together for the past 4 to 5 days. Police received information about the incident around 10 pm on Wednesday. The victim was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased from West Bengal was a resident of Madhusudanpalli.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's sister, Sudipa Kar, on Thursday, police registered a murder case. During interrogation, Ravidas confessed. He was arrested on Thursday evening and is currently in police custody.
