JABALPUR: Two women Maoists, each carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh, were killed in an encounter this morning in the Sarai Forest under the Bichiya police station area of Mandla, Jabalpur. The encounter occurred as a result of a search operation conducted by the Hawk Force jawans, who were scanning the forest area for Maoist activity.
According to Balaghat Range IG Sanjay Kumar, the Hawk Force team began their search in the Sarai Forest area at around 7 am. The deceased were identified as Mamta and Pramila – ACM ranks. DGP Kailash Makwana confirmed the encounter killing of these two alleged Maoists.
During the operation, the Maoist group opened fire, prompting the Hawk Force jawans to retaliate. The gunfight lasted for nearly an hour, after which the Maoist team retreated. Following the retreat, the Hawk Force team conducted a thorough search of the area and discovered two female bodies. Both were confirmed dead at the scene. The team also recovered weapons from the site, which were seized for further investigation.
There is speculation that other Maoists may have been injured during the encounter, though no further details have been confirmed. The search operation is still ongoing in the forest area by the Hawk Force team.
Mandla Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha confirmed that both deceased women have been identified. A reward of Rs 14 lakh had been announced for each of them prior to the encounter.
Additionally, it is possible that these Maoists may have rewards declared for them in other states as well, given their involvement in Maoist activities across regions. Authorities are working to confirm whether any such announcements have been made. The investigation into the encounter is ongoing, and the Hawk Force continues its search in the forest area for any remaining Maoist operatives.
