BENGALURU: Following her late husband’s footsteps,
Parvathamma Rajkumar, film producer and wife of legendary thespian - Rajkumar, who passed away at the wee hours on Wednesday, donated her eyes to Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank of Narayana Nethralaya, reminding the world about dire need of donating sight to the visually impaired that can change lives of many.
Parvathamma had battled for life at MS Ramaiah Hospital for 17 long days.
Immediately after she took her last breath at 4:40am on Wednesday, her family contacted the chairman and managing director (MD) of Narayana Nethralaya for donating her eyes.
Dr K Bhujang Shetty, chairman and MD at Narayana Nethralaya, said, “Few live their life for the greater good and prove that even on their death. Parvathamma Rajkumar lived up to the legacy of her late husband Dr Rajkumar by donating her eyes after her death earlier today, much identical to his action and values.”
“The legendary Dr Rajkumar, during the inauguration of our eye bank at Narayana Nethralaya had pledged to donate his eyes after his death and walked the talk by actually donating his eyes. We have named our Eye Bank as Dr Rajkumar Eye Bank, in dedication to the values exhibited by him and for having encouraged people to pledge eyes by being an example himself. We are extremely thankful to the late couple for their noble deeds in this regard,” he added.
