BANGALORE: The Council couldn''t transact business for the second consecutive day on Thursday with the opposition stalling proceedings to press for a joint House committee to probe ''irregularities'' in drought-relief work.
Opposition leader D H Shankar Murthy argued that the demand is justified since a joint House committee could submit a comprehensive report to highlight the irregularities.
M C Nanaiah (AIPJD) wondered: "Why are you shying away from announcing a committee? We are not trying to politicise the issue. In fact, the panel would also highlight your achievements."
Law and parliamentary affairs minister D B Chandre Gowda said a state-level task force, district committees, taluk-level committees and a ministerial cabinet sub-committee have been set up to monitor relief work and take action where irregularities have been reported.
