BANGALORE: The state BJP on Wednesday demanded that teachers in schools be paid their salaries by the first of every month and the Department of Public Instruction should be given direct responsibility of disbursing salaries.

bangalore: the state bjp on wednesday demanded that teachers in schools be paid their salaries by the first of every month and the department of public instruction should be given direct responsibility of disbursing salaries. bjp mlcs d.h.shankar murthy, k.narahari and balakrishna bhat told reporters that from the day the zilla panchayats took over the administration of schools, teachers have not been getting their salary on the first of the month. now that the taluk panchayats had taken over the responsibility and the disbursement had been delayed further. the members also took exception to the government's decision to cut the mid-term holidays for schools. the government has cut the october holidays by 10 days and commencement of summer holidays have been postponed from april 10 to april 16. narahari demanded the reversal of the decision to merge class viii with the upper primary school along with class vi and vii. the number of teachers in the secondary schools teaching class ix and x would become superfluous. the bjp also opposed the move to give authority to the sitting legislators of the area to nominate members to the school betterment committees. ``this will politicise education,'' bhat said.
