Bengaluru: Three members of a family from Malleswaram heading to a naming ceremony at Sira in Tumakuru district were killed on the spot after their car crashed into the median divider at Lakkur bridge on the NH-4 stretch between Nelamangala and Dabaspet Thursday. Two children in the car, however, survived the crash with minor injuries.
Gopal, 58, a realtor, his wife Shashikala, 55, and their daughter Deepika, 35, and grandchildren Bhuvan, 3, and Aadhya, 1, had set out early in the morning. As the car approached Lakkur bridge on National Highway 4, where the wide six-lane road abruptly narrows into two, Gopal, who was at the wheel, lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the divider with devastating force.
Passersby pulled out Gopal, Shashikala and Deepika who had died instantly from the mangled vehicle. The injured Bhuvan and Aadhya were rushed to a hospital in Bengaluru. The children are recovering, said Bengaluru district SP CK Baba.
