‘Will secure Anklav municipality with help of independents’
Gandhinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party will come into power in the Anklav municipality of Anand district with the help of elected independent members, said BJP president C R Paatil on Tuesday.
Amit Chavda, leader of the Congress legislature party in the assembly, represents the Anklav constituency.
The Congress did not field any candidates for the Anklav municipality election; instead, it decided to support a panel of independent candidates. Independents won 14 seats, and the BJP won 10 seats of the municipality when votes were counted on Tuesday.
"We will come to power in Anklav municipality with the help of independents. The Congress failed to even put up candidates in the municipality," Paatil told reporters at the state BJP HQ.
State Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil said that the party decided to support a panel of independent candidates to ensure that votes were not divided.
