Man wanted in two gold theft cases nabbed
Ahmedabad: The city crime branch arrested a suspect wanted in two theft cases registered at Kalupur police station and Kalupur Railway police station. Acting on a tip-off, police apprehended the accused, Ahmed Shaikh, 49, near Mira Crossroads slum quarters on Wednesday.
The accused, who worked as a labourer, was evading arrest in two cases involving the theft of 21 tolas (210g) of gold reported last year. During questioning, Shaikh confessed to stealing gold ornaments along with his associate by targeting a passenger at Kalupur Railway station in May 2024, police said. His accomplice, Javed Shaikh, was arrested earlier.

Shaikh admitted to selling 21 tolas of gold allegedly to a jeweller, Hitesh Soni, in Rakhial for Rs 6.5 lakh and giving Rs 20,000 to Javed. Shaikh planned to visit a dargah in Bihar with the money. The crime branch police handed over Shaikh's custody to Kalupur Railway police for further action.
