Ahmedabad: Bopal Police arrested a couple for allegedly attempting to murder a man in broad daylight last month, following a broken betrothal from 13 years ago.
The police on Monday arrested 31-year-old Rinki Patel and her husband Sandip Patel after an investigation. The duo allegedly tracked, attacked, and stabbed a man near Shela, triggered by his decision to cut ties with Rinki after their engagement was called off over a decade ago.
According to officials, Rinki tried to reach out to the victim via phone calls, but he avoided her and subsequently blocked her number. Frustrated by his rejection, Rinki sought her husband's help to carry out a violent attack.
On Feb 26, they tracked the victim who was riding his scooter near Sun Sky View in Shela. Sandip, driving a white car, deliberately crashed into the victim's scooter, causing him to fall.
As the victim lay confused, Rinki approached with a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the stomach, shoulder, and arm. After the attack, the couple fled.
The cops reviewed the CCTV footage, collected local information, and dispatched several teams to track the suspects. The search ended on Monday near Vaishnodevi Circle, where police arrested Rinki and Sandip and seized the vehicle involved in the crime.
Bopal Police charged the couple with attempted murder, dangerous driving, and public order violations. The cops are working to recover the weapon and uncover additional details about the revenge plot.
