Agra: A merchant navy official, 58, from Mathura has gone missing in Egpyt after allegedly slipping into the Mediterranean Sea. The family of Shivdev has also reached out to govt authorities to seek their help in tracing the missing official.
Family said that Shivdev, a retired Indian Navy official, had been working in the merchant navy for the past 22 years. The incident took place on Feb 15 when he was serving as the captain of an oil tanker ship--Onyx-- which was anchored at Egypt's Port Said for over a month. After handing over the charge of the ship to another Captain, Shivdev was coming down from the ship to board a small boat that was waiting for him to take him to another end of the port from where he was supposed to be taken to a hotel. While coming down the ship using a ladder, his feet slipped.
His wife Bavita Singh told TOI, "On Sunday morning, an official from his company Xfinity Maritime Services, informed us that he drifted with the strong waves of the Mediterranean Sea. A search operation was launched by the company, but he has not been traced till now. The company officials also told us that the rescue operation will have to be stopped."
Shivdev is originally from Mathura and was living with his family in Maharashtra's Panvel. TOI reached out to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal for a statement, but his response was awaited and also attempted to contact Xfinity Maritime Services, but the call went unanswered.
Babita said that that their two sons, Prince Kumar, 33, and Gaurav Kumar, 33, were scheduled to fly to Egypt on Monday night to gather more information about their father's whereabouts.
