Agra: Three schoolgirls died after they fell off a motorcycle and were run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle on the Agra-Aligarh highway near Barhar village under the jurisdiction of Sadabad police station in Hathras district on Saturday. Nargis, 14, and her sister Shahnaz, 15, both Class 7 students, along with their neighbour Piyu Sharma, 12, a Class 5 student, were enrolled at Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Iglas, Aligarh district.
Police said that the girls — all residents of Tedi Bagiya area in Agra — were returning home on a motorcycle driven by Nargis and Shahnaz's brother, Shahzad Ahmed, 24, when he lost control of the vehicle. Locals gathered at the spot and alerted the police. Emergency services transported the victims to the district hospital, where the three girls were declared dead. The bodies were sent for a postmortem examination at Hathras district hospital. Shahzad was transferred to SN Medical College in Agra, where he remains in critical condition.
Sadabad SHO Satendra Raghav said, "The families of the victims have been informed. An investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to apprehend the driver. No formal police complaint has been registered yet."
