Tripura Cong leader’s PSO, driver injured in attack

The personal security officer (PSO) and driver of former BJP minister who had resigned and joined Congress, Sudip Roy Barman, were assaulted by a group of unidentified people in front of the house of an advocate in Krishnanagar area of the city on Sunday.

Agartala: The personal security officer (PSO) and driver of former BJP minister who had resigned and joined Congress, Sudip Roy Barman, were assaulted by a group of unidentified people in front of the house of an advocate in Krishnanagar area of the city on Sunday.
However, Roy Barman and the advocate Somik Deb were unhurt, as both of them were safely ensconced inside a room by the security officer.

The target of the alleged attack was Roy Barman and when the security officer resisted, he was beaten mercilessly, ending up with serious injuries in arms and legs. The group also allegedly tried to snatch his service weapon but failed. Getting an SOS call from Roy Barman, police rushed to the spot and rescued both the injured.
Roy Barman told media that he was the target of the attack carried out at the behest of AMC councillor Abhishek Datta, the nephew of BJP MLA Surajit Datta. “BJP is running a jungle raj in the state where a policeman is being beaten up by the cadres in broad daylight. You can imagine how secure the common man is,” he added.
Congress chief Birjit Sinha said the PSO was injured as Roy Barman was not given adequate security by police.
Hundreds of Congress supporters gherao West Agartala police station demanding arrest of attackers. They alleged despite identification of the perpetrators from CCTV footage, police has not made a single arrest as all are BJP cadres.
