Protests in Tripura against monk’s arrest in Bangladesh
Agartala: Civil rights organisations and Hindu groups have been staging protests since Tuesday outside the Bangladesh assistant high commission office in Agartala, demanding the immediate release of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das and calling for an end to persecution of Hindus in the neighbouring country.
A demonstration was organised in the city by hundreds of Hindu religious leaders to advocate for their demands and seek assurances regarding minority safety in Bangladesh. Civil society representatives met the assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh to present their demands through a memorandum, warning of potential mass protests.
On Wednesday, Tripura CM Manik Saha expressed his condemnation of the continuing persecution of Hindu minorities and leaders in Bangladesh. He called for collaborative efforts to end the attacks on Hindu minorities in the neighbouring nation. Addressing the recent arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and attacks on Hindu minorities, Saha said, “Sanatan dharma is the bearer of justice and values. History has witnessed that all those who tried to harm sanatan dharma have been wiped out.”
Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has called for immediate international cooperation to address the undemocratic and humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. “The ongoing attacks on Sanatani minorities, various religious institutions & Sanatani gurus in Bangladesh are entirely undemocratic & an affront to basic human rights. I strongly condemn such incidents, completely based on narrow and vested interests, where Sanatani sentiments and human rights are violated,” Deb said.
