Why was Steph Curry’s sister disappointed in Paige Bueckers’ draft night look?

Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 WNBA draft pick, was celebrated for her stellar college career, including a national championship and numerous accolades. However, Sydel Curry-Lee expressed slight disappointment with Bueckers' draft night outfit on her podcast. While acknowledging Bueckers' past fashion successes, Curry-Lee's comments sparked a conversation about expectations surrounding female athletes' appearances.

Paige Bueckers was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, selected by the Dallas Wings on April 14. The UConn star capped off an incredible college career with a national championship, multiple Player of the Year honors, and a place in school history as one of its all-time scoring leaders.
But not everyone was thrilled with everything about draft night specifically, her outfit.
Sydel Curry-Lee, sister of NBA star Steph Curry, shared her thoughts on the latest episode of her podcast Straight to Cam, co-hosted with WNBA forward Cameron Brink. On episode 13, Curry-Lee admitted she was “a teensy bit disappointed” with Bueckers’ outfit choice.
“I’m a big Paige Bueckers fan,” she said. “But… I was a teensy bit disappointed, not disappointed, but like underwhelmed with her look. I thought her hair was fire... I think just last year, the white fit was just so good that it was hard to beat that.”
Curry-Lee wasn’t criticizing Bueckers personally but compared her look to past appearances, suggesting expectations were high based on Bueckers' previous fashion moments.
Bueckers, meanwhile, made headlines for much more than her outfit. She made history at UConn, becoming the first freshman woman to win the AP Player of the Year award in 2021. She averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over her four seasons and scored 2,439 career points, third-most in program history. She also became the fastest player in UConn history to reach both 1,000 and 2,000 career points.
Her college career ended on a high note, as she led UConn to its 12th national title in April 2025, scoring 17 points in a dominant win over South Carolina.
Curry-Lee’s podcast, launched in February with Brink, focuses on sports and pop culture. The discussion about Bueckers’ look came up as part of their ongoing conversations about the WNBA and women in sports.
Despite the fashion critique, the admiration for Bueckers’ on-court achievements remains clear.
