Pune airport records 1.05 crore passenger movements in 2024-25, 10.66% rise over 2023-24

PUNE: The Pune airport has recorded an increase of 10.66% in total passenger movements in the last FY compared to 2023-24, Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said on Thursday.
In 2024-25, the total passenger traffic at the facility rested at 1.05 crore against 95.2 lakhs in 2023-24. “This surge reflects the growing demand for both domestic and international travel, with December 2024 seeing the highest passenger volume of the year, totalling 954,000 travellers, including 920,000 domestic and 33,337 international passengers,” the director said.

He added that the aircraft movements too had gone up in the last FY. “Aircraft movements have also grown significantly. In FY 2024-2025, the airport recorded 68,557 aircraft movements, marking an increase of 7.05% from the previous year. The highest number of movements occurred in January and February,” Dhoke added.
In the last FY, the total aircraft movements at the airport stood at 68557 against 64039 in 2023-24.
July last year had seen the operations at the new terminal building starting after the new facility was inaugurated on March 10. The total transition of all flights happened on March 5 this year after all flights were shifted and the old building was closed down.
Dhoke said that the cargo movement at the airport had also witnessed an impressive growth.
“Cargo operations at Pune Airport have also witnessed steady growth, with total cargo movements increasing by 8.85%, reaching 41191.5 tonnes in FY 2024-2025 against 37841 tonnes in 2023-24. Both domestic and international cargo saw growth, with international cargo making a notable recovery after a zero figure in FY 2023-24,” the senior official added.
Frequent flyers said that while the figures were impressive, the real test of the new terminal building had just started. They also added that there were quite a few issues the airport authorities needed to address even now.
“Only recently all the flights have shifted to the new airport building. And the total flight movement presently is anything between 200 to 208. It needs to be seen how the new building will handle the crowd during the upcoming holiday season and festive season,” Atul Kesar, a businessman and frequent flyer told TOI.
