CHENNAI: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal on Saturday (Dec 7), the India Meteorological Department said on Friday. This is due to the cyclonic circulations over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts around Dec 12, causing heavy downpours from Dec 11.
Heavy rain is expected in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu on Dec 11. Chengalpet, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry will get rain on Dec 12.
Until Dec 11, sporadic spells are expected all over Tamil Nadu.
A few places in Tamil Nadu received rain on Friday.
Karur recorded the maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius while Erode recorded the minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.
