Danish bhai didn’t just cut my hair… he curated it. Yes, you heard that right. I always thought hair could be cut, styled, trimmed… but curated? That was new to me. But Danish bhai said it with such quiet confidence, in English, no less. “I curated your hair,” he declared.
He runs a hair studio, not a salon. And clearly, he doesn’t just give haircuts. He crafts looks, shapes moods, maybe even edits personalities. I walked in expecting a trim. I walked out feeling like an exhibit.
Who knew hair too could be a canvas? Curated? Edited? Yes that’s what he told me when I visited his hair studio recently.
Till then, I was proud that being an editor, only we can edit. Danish bhai changed my concept. He sang while he edited my hair. I imagined myself singing while editing stories.
Sweetest songs make me sad; I find tears in my eyes. But you know, Danish bhai’s eyes gleamed while he sang and edited my hair. He said songs bring me devotion, I do also cry, but in happiness he said.
How he sculpted my hair. From an inverted bob, he converted it into steps. I was so satisfied. Satisfaction is like finishing a conversation… with your chemist, sorted your home or simply when you could arrange your dining table properly. Every spoon in its place, and you pause just to admire it.
Or like that sparkly-eyed HR girl at work, calmly setting up ten laptops for interviewees, at such a short notice, without breaking a sweat. She was smiling all through.
Also when you didn’t ask for it. But someone in the house remembered. The tea arrives just when your back hurts, your mind is racing, and you are convinced no one’s noticing. And there it is.. hot, slightly over-brewed just the way you like it, with the faintest taste of ginger. No words needed. Sip. Sigh. Bliss.
Satisfactions aren’t always loud. They don’t need applause. They live in small, fleeting moments. But oh, they are priceless.
