has a new phone out, it’s still to decide we should be calling it a phone phone or should we just call it a camera. The phone we’re talking about is the X200 Ultra, and it's making a serious play to replace your dedicated camera. The standout feature? An optional telephoto converter lens that transforms this already capable phone into something that starts to rival the full frame cameras.
Starting at 6,499 yuan, the X200 Ultra packs quite a punch with its triple camera setup. There's a 50MP 35mm main camera — a refreshing departure from the standard 24mm lenses we see on most phones — alongside a 50MP ultrawide that shares the same large sensor as the main shooter. Then there's that 200MP telephoto with 3.7x optical zoom.
But here's where things get interesting: shell out an extra 2,598 yuan for the Photographer Kit, and you'll score a 2.35x telephoto converter lens that boosts the zoom all the way to 8.7x. The kit also throws in a camera grip with dedicated photo and video buttons, custom dials, and an extra 2,300mAh battery to keep you shooting longer.
It’s not just about the pictures, but the X200 Ultra looks good even when it comes to shooting videos. There’s 4K/60fps 10-bit Log recording available on all three rear cameras, along with slow-motion capabilities up to 4K/120fps. Then, there’s even a dedicated shutter button that lets you slide your finger to adjust zoom or exposure, similar to what
Apple introduced with Camera Control on the 16.
Under the hood, the X200 Ultra runs on Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The 6.82-inch OLED display is plenty bright at 4,500 nits, and the 6,000mAh battery supports 90W wired charging when you need to juice up quickly.
Unfortunately for those of us outside China, Vivo hasn't announced any plans for global release. If you're in China, though, you can grab it in silver, red, or black, with the maxed-out 16GB/1TB version setting you back 7,999 yuan.
