'Exit polls are premature, should wait for results': Swati Maliwal on Delhi polls

After several exit polls predicted Bharatiya Janata party's victory in the Delhi assembly polls, Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal stated that people should wait for results as exit polls are premature and it can be right or wrong.

Maliwal affirmed hope that people of Delhi have "wisely" voted for those who actually work for the national capital, adding that Delhi has become a "dustbin" and the city is in its "worst state" as of now.

"People of Delhi are well aware and I am fully confident that they have voted for people who can actually work for Delhi. Exit polls are premature; we should wait for the results. Exit polls may be right or wrong," Maliwal told ANI.

"I expect whoever comes to power to work for Delhi as it is in the worst state as of now. Infrastructure is damage, sewers are overflowing and dirty water is supplied to their houses. Delhi has become a dustbin. Garbage has been spread everywhere. Yamuna is not clean. I think people of Delhi have voted wisely," she added.

Our graph is growing continuously. We didn’t contest for Milkipur bypoll. We support INDIA alliance there. We contested in Delhi and our seats are increasing. Our graph is growing in country.

Not only exit polls, but the actual poll will also fetch the same results... Arvind Kejriwal brought Delhi into a state of distress... The people of Delhi have blessed PM Modi to ensure development in the capital under the leadership of the Prime Minister... Only one day is left, everyone will know the actual results.

On Delhi elections exit polls, Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma said, "The verdict of the public would be open on February 8... The faith of the people in PM Modi has increased. Arvind Kejriwal did not get a chance to take a dip in the Yamuna River... He should introspect and start doing optimistic politics."

'Exit polls are known to going wrong': Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi

On exit polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "Exit polls are known to going wrong. We have seen them in the recent elections... For any Indian to believe in the exit polls would be a preemptory celebration for something which could be different from reality. Let's wait for the results. Having seen Arvind Kejriwal and AAP's work, the people of Delhi will continue to impose their faith in them and vote for them."

'Delhi Exit polls underestimated AAP, presented it as very weak': Congress' Sandeep Dikshit

After most of the exit polls predicted the BJP comeback in the national capital after 27-years, Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit said on Thursday that the predictions did not portray a correct picture of the Delhi Assembly elections result as they have underestimated the Aam Aadmi Party.

Speaking to ANI, Dikshit said that the Congress would have easily received 17-18 per cent of votes.

"As per the Exit Polls, the BJP may form the government, but I think they have underestimated the AAP. They have presented the AAP as very weak but don't think their condition would be so bad," he said.

"I am also disappointed in the Exit polls; the Congress would have easily received 17-18 per cent of the votes. Everything would be clear on February 8. Exit polls are sometimes right and wrong also. Exit polls are not showing the correct picture of the result of Delhi elections," the Congress candidate added.

Exit Polls 2025 Live: Exit polls fail to enthuse as AAP, BJP and Congress certain of better scores

Most exit polls on Wednesday predicted BJP's win in the Delhi assembly polls. While BJP expressed confidence that its actual performance would exceed the projected numbers, AAP said that exit polls "historically" underestimated the party's performance.

AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "We fought three elections in Delhi, and this is the fourth assembly election we are fighting. In 2013 and 2015, exit polls showed that we would be defeated, and in 2020, exit polls indicated that we would get fewer numbers. In the same way, in 2025, it is being shown that we will get fewer seats." Bharadwaj added, "BJP always silences common people's voices so they don't speak out of fear. AAP's vote share always comes out more than what is shown in the exit polls."

Exit Polls 2025 Live: AAP accuses BJP of distributing cash, latter retorts with fake voting charge

The blame game between AAP and BJP continued on Wednesday, with both parties accusing each other of indulging in malpractices and violating the model code of conduct.

While AAP alleged BJP distributed cash and kept campaign material on polling tables in Jangpura and Kondli assembly constituencies, the saffron party claimed that fake votes were cast in Seelampur by “burqaclad” women. While the campaign material was seized, police rejected the allegations of cash distribution and charges of fake voting.
In the morning, senior AAP functionary Manish Sisodia alleged that money was being distributed from a house in Jangpura. He also shared a video of the purported act on X.

DCP (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh, however, said a flying surveillance team was called to the spot to verify the allegations, but nothing was found.
“We received a complaint... the FST team also responded to it and the allegation was verified, nothing of this kind was found,” he said.

North East Delhi leads charge, urban pockets lax

Mustafabad, Seelampur register highest turnouts; Mehrauli, Model Town bottom of ladder

The lanes and bylanes of residential pockets in northeast Delhi were abuzz with festival-like activities with a large number of people coming out to vote to elect their representatives for the eighth Delhi legislative assembly on Wednesday.

Among the top five assembly constituencies that witnessed high turnouts, four were from northeast Delhi (figure at 11:30 pm). Mustafabad registered the highest turnout at 69%, closely followed by Seelampur with 68.7%. In third place was the reserved constituency of Gokalpur with 68.3% followed by Babarpur at 66%.

Mustafabad, Seelampur and Gokalpur have always been among the top performers when it comes to voting in both Lok Sabha and assembly polls. While Seelampur recorded the highest voter turnout in 2020 at 71.4%, Mustafabad was a close second with 70.5%. In the 2015 election, Gokalpur was the top performer with a 74.2% turnout, Seelampur had recorded 71.8% while Mustafabad had witnessed 70.9% electors casting their votes.

Exit Poll 2025 Live: BJP hopes 27-year exile coming to an end as exit polls give it edge

Two exit polls released on Wednesday gave BJP an edge over AAP in the Delhi assembly polls, one of the four analysed here gave the incumbent a third consecutive decisive mandate and another gave BJP an even clearer win. If the BJP does win, it will end a near three-decade drought — 27 years, to be precise — for the saffron party in the state.

The Matrize poll estimated that BJP would likely cross the majority mark, but only just, with a projected range of 35-40 seats in the 70-member House. P-Marq gave the saffron party a somewhat better range of 39-44 seats while People’s Pulse put the figure at 51-60, a sweep nearly as comprehensive as AAP’s in the last two assembly polls in 2015 and 2020.

Exit Poll 2025 Live: All turnout dips, all eyes on Saturday score

The fate of three major political players and 699 candidates is now sealed with over 60.4% (data updated at 11.30 pm) of the 1.6 crore voters of Delhi coming out to cast their votes on Wednesday for electing their representatives for the 70-member assembly in the capital.

The turnout is the lowest since 2008, when only 57.8% of the total number of electors had cast their votes. Nearly 66% of the total electorate exercised their franchise in 2013 while in the subsequent election in 2015, a record high voting of 67.5% was witnessed. The 2020 polls, however, saw a dip of nearly five percentage points with 62.8% exercising their franchise.

The turnout this time is 1.8 percentage points more than that of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – 58.6% – conducted during the peak of summer in May.

Exit polls give BJP edge in Delhi, party hopes 27-year wait will end

Two exit polls released Wednesday gave BJP an edge over AAP in the Delhi assembly polls, one of the four analysed gave the incumbent a third consecutive decisive mandate and another gave BJP an even clearer win. If BJP does win, it will end a near three-decade drought — 27 years, to be precise — for the saffron party in the state.

The Matrize poll estimated that BJP would likely cross the majority mark, but only just, with a projected range of 35-40 seats in the 70-member House. In contrast to these, WeePreside predicted that AAP would win 46-52 seats, with BJP at best getting 23 seats. All the four polls put the Congress tally at no more than one seat and even that was not a sure shot. For the Congress, which was in office in Delhi for 15 years before AAP unseated it, that would mean its hopes of a significant revival in the national capital would once again be dashed.

Exit Polls 2025 Live: Delhi records over 60% overall voting

Delhi recorded 60.10 per cent voter turnout in the assembly polls on Wednesday amid charges of malpractices including money distribution and fake voting by both AAP and BJP who are engaged in an intense battle to decide who rules the national capital.

The turnout almost touches what it was in the 2020 assembly polls (62.59 per cent) when the Arvind Kejriwal-led party won 62 seat of the 70 seats, while the BJP got eight and the Congress zero.

Exit Polls 2025 Live: AAP has rejected exit polls for underestimating its performance in Delhi, BJP says hint at change

The AAP rejected the exit poll results for the Delhi Assembly election on Wednesday, saying the pollsters have "historically" underestimated its performance, while the BJP termed the predictions an assertion of people's urge for change. As voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly concluded at 6 pm on Wednesday, most exit polls predicted an edge to the BJP over the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

AAP's national spokesperson Reena Gupta told PTI that exit polls have historically underestimated the Arvind Kejriwal-led party but in actual results, the party gains several times more than these projections.

"You look at any exit poll -- whether in 2013, 2015 or 2020 -- the AAP was always shown getting a smaller number of seats. But it got a greater number of seats in the actual results," Gupta said.

She claimed that the people of Delhi have voted for the AAP in large numbers and asserted that the party is going to register a "historic" victory, with Kejriwal becoming the chief minister for a fourth time.

The poll results are scheduled to be declared on Saturday. (PTI)

Exit Polls 2025 Live: BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri claims 'Modi wave in Delhi, BJP to cross 50-seat mark'

As most exit polls predict victory for the BJP, party's candidate and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri on Wednesday declared that there was Modi wave as people in Delhi want development. He said that the BJP will cross the 50-seat mark.

He said that people in Delhi seek development just as it has happened across the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Expressing confidence that BJP will cross the 50-seat mark, Bidhuri said that people were tired of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

"This is the Modi wave. The people of Delhi want development just like there has been development in the rest of the country under PM Narendra Modi. People are tired of Kejriwal. The hard work put in by our party workers and the guidance and strategy of our leaders have reaped fruit. I don't believe in these exit polls, the number of our seats will rise further. BJP will cross the 50-seat mark," Bidhuri, who is a BJP candidate from Kalkaji Vidhan Sabha against Delhi CM Atishi, told ANI on exit polls prediction. (ANI)

Exit Poll 2025 Live: Why it’s a tricky contest in this northeast Delhi constituency

The Babarpur assembly constituency, located in the heart of north-east Delhi, is set for a triangular fight: a sitting MLA eyeing a hat-trick, aformer municipal councillor and a candidate attempting to find his electoral feet.

The constituency, with nearly 35% Muslim voters, was a BJP bastion until AAP dented it in 2015. BJP’s Naresh Gaur won the Babarpur seat in 1993 and 1998 but lost to Congress’ Vinay Sharma in 2003. However, Gaur was reelected in 2008 and won a fourth term in 2013, defeating AAP senior Gopal Rai. But Rai turned the tables and won two consecutive terms from Babarpur in 2015 and 2020.

The constituency, with a diverse mix of communities, is home to people residing in Balbir Nagar, Chhajjupur, Harijan Basti, Indira Niketan, Janta Mazdoor Colony, Kabir Nagar, Kardam Puri, Maujpur, New Jafrabad, North Ghonda and Yamuna Vihar.
Rai now hopes to do at Babarpur what even four-time winner Gaur couldn’t — win a hat-trick from the seat. However, Rai, who is AAP’s Delhi convenor and was a minister in the past two govts, while confident of a victory, still faces challenges from both BJP and Congress.

BJP has nominated Anil Kumar Vashisht, a Brahmin who was a former councillor from 2002 to 2007. He is likely to be backed by the Brahmins, who are estimated to number around 19% in the constituency. He had contested assembly elections from Babarpur in 2008 but failed to secure a win.

The Congress candidate is Mohammad Ishraq Khan, a former MLA from north-east Delhi’s Seelampur. Khan contested the assembly elections in 2015 on an AAP ticket from Seelampur, but he was denied a ticket in 2020. This time, Congress has taken him into its ranks and fielded him from the neighbouring Babarpur seat. Both Rai and Khan are attempting to lure Muslim voters, who have a sizeable presence in the constituency. Read full story

Delhi Exit Poll 2025 Live: Suspense in clash of big names in constituency marred by acrimony

The electoral battle in the New Delhi assembly constituency has solid chief ministerial associations. AAP candidate Arvind Kejriwal, the former CM who dethroned then CM Sheila Dikshit on the seat in 2013 after a 15-year tenure, seeks reelection for the fourth time there. Arrayed against him are the sons of former CMs; Congress has bet on Sandeep Dikshit, son of Delhi’s longest-serving CM, while BJP has put up Parvesh Verma, son of Sahib Singh Verma.

For Kejriwal, the election is critical because he has designated it a referendum on the corruption allegations made against him. When resigning from the CM’s post, he promised to re-assume the top post only after the people of Delhi granted him a “certificate of honesty”. The New Delhi constituency, of course, doesn’t represent the entirety of the city, being, numerically speaking, one of the smallest among the 70 assembly seats with a big portion of the electors being govt employees.

Geographically small, the constituency is, however, no less diverse than the country. It includes Lutyens’ Delhi which has the President’s Estate, bungalows of the Prime Minister and Union ministers, Parliament, Khan Market, Connaught Place, posh colonies and government quarters, etc. The political parties must reach out to the bureaucrats and the affluent voters in the tony colonies of Golf Links and Jor Bagh.

They must also win over those making ends meet in slums near Laxmi Bai Nagar and Peshwa Road and the village of Palinji.
Kejriwal is banking on the work he has done in his constituency and the welfare schemes of his govt. “People appreciate AAP’s work,” he said with confidence. “BJP has openly declared that if it comes to power, it will scrap five crucial benefits: free electricity, free water, govt schools, mohalla clinics and free bus travel for women. This will result in a financial burden of 20,000-25,000 per month for households.” Read full story

Delhi Exit Poll 2025 Live: Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar claims 'BJP set to win Delhi polls with clear majority'

Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious in the Delhi Assembly elections, securing a clear majority after decades.

Speaking to news agency IANS, Khattar claimed positive atmosphere around the polls, highlighting that people are enthusiastic about voting and are showing strong support for the BJP.

"From what I’ve observed, people are eagerly coming out to vote, and there’s a clear shift in favour of the BJP. When the mood is this positive, it’s evident that we’re on track for a decisive win. The public is well aware of the past 10 years under Kejriwal's leadership, and this time, the BJP is poised to form the government in Delhi with a solid majority," Khattar said.

"The BJP is always prepared for elections, and we’re ready to win. In Haryana's municipal elections, we will also secure a clear majority. There is no election where the BJP is not ready to triumph," he added.

Delhi went to cast their votes on Wednesday for 70 assembly constituencies, as more than 1.5 crore registered voters participated in shaping the capital's governance.

The polling commenced at 7 am and remained open until 6 pm, with 13,766 polling stations operational throughout the city.

The electoral battle features three main contenders: the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress. AAP's Arvind Kejriwal seeks a third straight term as chief minister, whilst BJP attempts to secure power after a 30-year absence. Congress strives to re-establish its presence after being out of power for ten years.

Key candidates include former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal competing against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress's Sandeep Dikshit, while CM Atishi faces challenges from BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress's Alka Lamba.

AAP's manifesto focused on extending existing welfare programmes including free electricity, water, and bus travel, alongside financial assistance for women, students, and elderly citizens. BJP has announced new welfare schemes, comprising stipends for women and traders, and reduced gas cylinder prices.

Congress campaigned on promises of financial support for unemployed youth, women, and free electricity for low-consumption households.

The electoral process involves over 1.1 lakh officials and 60,000 security personnel ensuring orderly polling. The voter demographic includes 82.7 lakh male and 72.4 lakh female voters, utilising more than 21,500 ballot units and 18,943 VVPAT machines.

Once the voting concludes, exit polls, which were restricted until 6.30 pm, will be broadcast on news channels and shared across social media platforms.

The vote counting is scheduled for February 8.
