After the much-talked-about Adrian Newey’s switch to Aston Martin, the team is now making headlines for its losing streak since the start of the season. The notable engineer is, however, working solely on the company’s 2026 project regarding the new regulations that will be implemented next year. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso, who has a long-term contract with the team but is yet to earn any points this season, continues to complain about the car’s inability to offer enough pace. He has now said that maybe they “need to get used to it” at least for this season.

Fernando Alonso on Aston Martin’s poor performance this season

Fernando Alonso finished 11th at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah and got no points. On the other hand, the other Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll, finished in 16th position. Talking after the race, Alonso said, “I gave everything on track. It was hard to keep up the pace with the cars in front. We were just not quick enough. P11 is the worst position probably you can finish and we need to get used to it. It’s going to be difficult to score points this year.”
“Today we are P11 also because Yuki [Tsunoda] and Gasly had contact in lap one and Liam [Lawson] had a 10-second penalty. If not, we were P14. But there’s still a long way to go,” he added.

Before the Jeddah race, Alonso finished 15th and Stroll 17th at the Bahrain Grand Prix. In Japan, Alonso was 11th and Stroll was last. In China, Alonso couldn’t finish the race, but Stroll collected his first 2 points by coming in 9th position. Alonso again couldn’t finish the race in Australia, but Stroll managed their best result of the season—6th place and 8 points.
Meanwhile, Aston Martin boss Andy Cowell has assured that they are working on “how to push things forward” in order to contain the current situation. On the question of Newey helping out in the current crisis at Aston Martin, Cowell said, as per Motorsport Week, “I think he’s working only on 2026, so if he’s deciding that, I totally support that.”

The team still has a week to figure out the AMR25 and its shortcomings. The next race is in Miami from May 2–4.
