Is Salman Khan gearing up for Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 after Sikandar box office setback?
After the lukewarm box office performance of Sikandar, Salman Khan is reportedly setting his sights on a potential comeback—this time by revisiting one of his most iconic roles.
Buzz around town indicates that the superstar is in early talks to develop a sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, his 2015 blockbuster that stole hearts and shattered box office records. Sources close to the project revealed to Mid-Day that Salman recently met with veteran screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad to brainstorm ideas for the sequel. “They met a couple of days ago and have come up with an idea. Discussions are ongoing,a source said.

This news comes months after Vijendra confirmed to the media "Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 script is ready." Speaking at the Ruslaan press meet in June 2024, he said, he just "needs to find some time to narrate it to Salman Bhai, the hero. Then we will see what happens next."

Prasad, known for his work on mega-hits like Baahubali and RRR, also wrote the original Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which has only fuelled excitement around the possibility of a sequel coming to screens soon.

The news comes just as Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, ended its first week at the box office on a somewhat disappointing note. Despite a strong Eid opening with Rs 26 crore and peaking at Rs 29 crore on the holiday itself, the film saw a rapid decline in the days that followed. Sikandar closed Week 1 at an estimated Rs 97.50 crore—falling short of the Rs 100 crore benchmark and far from expectations for a film made on a reported Rs 200 crore budget.
In stark contrast, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was a massive commercial and critical success. The heartwarming tale of a mute Pakistani girl and the Indian man who helps reunite her with her family struck a chord with audiences worldwide. It grossed over Rs 320 crore domestically and over Rs 900 crore at the global box office, making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
