Rajesh Kumar, widely known for his role as Rosesh in the sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, stopped acting a few years ago to become a farmer. Rajesh returned to acting a few years ago, but in a recent interview, he discussed his agricultural experience, in which he lost approximately Rs 2.5-3 crore. Rajesh stated that he applied to appear on Shark Tank India and was upset that he was not able to sit down for a talk with the 'sharks'.
Rajesh told Hindi Rush that he failed in his farming business, which involved producing and selling organic veggies, because he "could not raise funds at the right time." He stated that throughout his discussions with investors, he was unable to understand their language when questioned about being "bootstrapped" or his "burn."
“Wherever I went, I spoke from my heart and that was the failure because these are corporate people, they want to see the numbers. I had numbers. I had kind of hit break-even point but it started failing because of tech,” he said before revealing that he had lost Rs 2.5-3 crore in his business.
Rajesh said that he lost the money after an app developer deceived him. "People are making mediocre apps everywhere, and I got caught up in it. Time is money, and I wasted six months because that man, that app developer, took us for a trip," he explained.
Rajesh previously said that he applied to be on Shark Tank but was rejected after passing two rounds. He looked to be referring to Anupam Mittal, the CEO of Shaadi.com and one of the 'sharks' on the show. Rajesh stated that he wants to speak about the hard work that goes into farming on the show. “When I went on Shark Tank, this is what I wanted to communicate. You aren’t from some other planet, you have made a lot of money, you have the resources, please market this. You should help me because there are things that I lack. At least sit with me,” he said.
Rajesh then asked, "You can marry two people and make money by becoming a pandit, but how much have you invested in their wedding?" You are bringing those two people together, but do you even know them? "You don't." He went on to say that there are many corporations and company owners "sitting with loads of money," and that if they spent even one percent of that money on farming, the agriculture industry would change. He stated that actors must play their roles and add their "glamour" to this industry in order to help turn things around.
Rajesh previously told Siddharth Kannan that Shark Tank India rejected him. “I had applied for Shark Tank India. I had cleared two out of three rounds. You also had to submit your videos, so I thought, I might get a favour because I am a known face. That here is an actor, who is a social entrepreneur talking about agriculture. My presentation was in Kolkata and it was wrapped within a day. My father paid for the tickets,” he said.
