AI world needs women’s perspective

AI world needs women’s perspective
Neeti Mehta Shukla
I had always dreamt of starting a business. This passion was backed by my motto “work smart, work right, and work hard,” which has served me well over two decades of entrepreneurship. It has also helped me remain result-oriented despite any challenge, from driving the creation of a whole new software category (intelligent automation) in 2003 as a co-founder, to now finding new avenues to make AI and automation accessible and affordable to everyone, everywhere.
The AI and automation revolution needs diversity of perspective to succeed, and women in technology have an absolutely vital role to play. As I reflect on my experience, I hope these principles serve you well:
Show up | In the midst of a technical revolution like AI, don’t shy away from trying new things, exploring new ways of working, and feeling a little uncomfortable in taking on the unfamiliar. In my career, there have been many such moments, from learning about unfamiliar industries like healthcare to taking on new challenges like scalability and driving organisational culture. I believe you can only succeed if you start—so show up, learn, and expand your horizons.
Engage | My career has blossomed in ways I never conceived because by nature I am forever curious and seldom passive. For instance, my work in helping nonprofits use automation came about because of my experience in technology and my love for humanity. When you engage and give it your all, magic happens. In today’s world, overcoming the inclusivity gap will require new AI-driven possibilities to be trained on a diverse set of data. The art of creating inclusive prompts and outcomes will depend on the participation of every one of us, so don’t just show up, sit in the driver’s seat.
Lead | I’ve been fortunate to have several role models help me develop the skills and mindset for effective leadership. By staying mission-driven and focused, I’ve been able to lead in various capacities throughout my career. A vital lesson that I practise is to embrace leadership and seize opportunities as they arise. This mindset is particularly crucial in today’s technological transformation. Moreover, I’ve learned that true leadership entails giving back and continuously paying it forward.
To everyone, but especially to women in STEM, I say the world needs your voice now more than ever. Dream big, take risks, stay resilient, and know that nothing is beyond your reach.
