Elon Musk has said that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is working 120 hours a week, which translates to around 17 hours per day. His announcement comes in less than two weeks into his role at the department.
“DOGE is working 120 hours a week. Our bureaucratic opponents optimistically work 40 hours a week. That is why they are losing so fast,” Musk said.
This was in response to a post that claimed that DOGE has found “massive waste and fraud”.
They’re finding massive waste, fraud and abuse of our tax dollars… in the first two weeks! Decades of grifting and stealing are coming to an end — finally! Thank you @DOGEMusk previously said that there are very few people in the bureaucracy that work on weekends.
Very few in the bureaucracy actually work the weekend, so it’s like the opposing team just leaves the field for 2 days! Working the weekend is a superpower 😂Employees work for longer hours at X
Known for his demanding work style, Musk has previously stated that he works 120-hour weeks and expects similar dedication from his employees. His mandate of 80-hour workweeks at Twitter following his takeover in October 2022 is well documented.
Recently, a statement by S.N. Subrahmanyan, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited, that working hours must be extended to 90 hours per week, and asked employees to come to work on Sundays, was condemned on social media.
Infosys founder Narayan Murthy also faced criticism for asking young Indians for 70-hours a week.
