Months after wrapping up Super Bowl LIX, the NFL has sparked a major debate by demoting three officials, as per Football Zebras. NFL demoting three referees has sparked a huge debate on social media, with many criticising the league for not firing them

As per Football Zebras, the three officials have now been given the responsibility to be involved in Power 5 games. The three officials are - third-year line judge Robin DeLorenzo, second-year umpire James Carter, and first-year down judge Robert Richeso.
But this has not gone down well with fans who are asking for more accountability from the league and more officials to be pulled up for their behaviour on the field.

A fan took to X and posted, “Just 3?!?!?! 75% of the refs in nfl are brain dead”, while another fan wrote, “Fire all the old ones being paid by organizations. Sh*tting on young folk do what they are told when it's wrong is bad.”

A third fan wrote, “I mean are we able to see what they did? I ask this because it’s more than just 3 messing up. How are these people any worse than the rest? Are they firing the refs messing up spot calls?”
Another user made a sarcastic comment as he wrote, “Thanks for helping us fix games now go help us fix collage games. Sounds right”
A fifth fan noted, “I mean I hate to see them lose their jobs for the sake of how much that sucks. But like maybe send them to the usfl or WAC for some experience for a year or two.”

NFL spokesperson talks about how “there are no favorites” in the league

As per Football Zebras, a spokesperson has commented on the move even though Scott Green, the Executive Director of the NFL's Referees Association, has stayed silent about the whole issue.
The spokesperson said, “The culture is changing, it’s changing rapidly. It’s changing into a competitive environment where everybody’s equal.”
The spokesperson added, “There are no favorites. There’s no favoritism. There’s none of that; it’s all about performance."
The NFL players have not reacted to the news yet and as per Football Zebras, all three referees have declined to comment on the controversy.
While fans have been complaining about referees being “unfair” to players and teams for a long time now, most were hoping referees will be permanently fired rather than being demoted.
With the upcoming NFL season starting in a few months, it would be interesting to see how this move will affect the matches.
