MUMBAI: The season of leaks in Indian women's cricket is in full bloom. The latest letter to have been leaked to media comes from India seamer Mansi Joshi, who has clarified that she never opposed Indian women's coach
Ramesh Powar's reinstatement, as reported by an agency.
On December 3, PTI had reported that while India's T20 skipper
Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain
Smriti Mandhana backed Powar's to continue as the coach,
Mithali Raj, who initially accused Powar of ignoring her and dropping her during the T20 World Cup in the West Indies,
Ekta Bisht and Joshi were against the former India off-spinner staying on in the job.
In her e-mail to the BCCI officials and the office-bearers, Joshi starts by saying: “Hi all, this is with regards to the information quoted in a PTI news report dated December 3, 2018 after the leaks of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana's letters to the BCCI. This report states that ‘It's learnt that Ekta Bisht and Mansi Joshi are against his (Ramesh Powar's) reinstatement along with ODI captain Mithali.’
“I am writing to you to deny this statement, and clarify that I have not said those words or anything to that effect to anyone in person or publicly. I have never endorsed my views on this whole matter to anyone and I fail to understand where this information could have come from."
Joshi, in fact, goes on to praise Powar, interestingly at a time when the Board has already given an advertisement for the post of women's coach.
“I have an amicable relationship with all my teammates as well as Ramesh sir and the support staff. I want to note here that I'm thankful to Ramesh sir and the support staff for giving me the confidence since my comeback into the team,” she compliments Powar.
She concludes her e-mail by ruing the fact that her name was “unnecessarily” dragged into the controversy.
“My family, well-wishers, and more importantly, my coach are all really stressed with this appearing now in all the leading newspapers of the country and the fact that I'm being pulled into this unnecessarily. With this e-mail, I just wish to clarify my stance that I have not said anything on those lines, as stated in the above-mentioned report,” she signed off.
