On June 10, Ananya Pal, a cultural activist who lives in Nairobi who has a Kolkata connection, will be arranging a cultural program Music and Beyond at an auditorium in Nairobi to mark the occasion of the World Music Day which is on June 21. This program is just an outcome of her passion for world music.
The main attraction would be a medley of compositions of Satyajit Ray, Salil Chaudhury, R.D.
Barman, A. R. Rahman and Jamaica Farewell song by
Harry Belafonte would be a tribute to the world-class musicians. Ananya shared, " It's an apt time to showcase the power of music having a huge variety of musical genres. Rehearsals are happening on a full swing. Though we live very far from India, composers from the country are global and part of world music. We have lost legendary Harry Belafonte recently. We would pay a special tribute to him too. It's a musical where
Satyajit Ray's composition would meet the same of Belafonte, R.D.Burman, Salil Chowdhury, A.R.Rahman and so on. It's to showcase how Indian music has a global appeal."
