How Can You Be a Santa for Shelter Animals This Holiday Season?

This Christmas, shelter animals across India are receiving a touch of holiday cheer thanks to the Santa Paws Initiative. Launched by the Heads Up For Tails (HUFT) Foundation, the campaign encourages donations of gently used or new pet items, as well as monetary contributions, to provide comfort and care during the harsh winter months.

As winter sets in, many animals in shelters across India face harsh conditions—cold, hunger, and neglect. While the festive season brings joy to many, for countless shelter animals, it’s just another reminder of their struggle for warmth, care, and love. But this Christmas, a heartwarming campaign is making sure that some of these animals feel the holiday spirit.
The Santa Paws Initiative, launched by the Heads Up For Tails (HUFT) Foundation, is calling on compassionate individuals to become “Santa” for shelter animals in need. The campaign invites people to donate gently used pet items—clothes, toys, and accessories—or purchase new goodies for the animals from HUFT stores. Monetary contributions are also being accepted to help shelters purchase specific items needed for the animals’ comfort.

The donations will benefit shelters across the country, including Wagging Tales Foundation, Friendicoes, and Charlie’s Animal Rescue Centre (CARE). These contributions go directly toward making the animals’ lives better, ensuring they have a little extra care during the cold months.
Rashi Narang, the founder of HUFT, believes that “1 Santa for 1 Shelter Animal” can make a lasting difference. This initiative not only brings hope to animals in need but also reminds us all of the power of small acts of kindness, especially during the season of giving.
