Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Centre over the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday, demanding transparency and accountability in such situations.

He called for immediate disclosure of the exact number of deaths and injuries and provided information about the missing individuals from the Centre.

"We demand that the number of dead and injured be declared as soon as possible and the identity of the missing people should also be ensured," Kharge posted on X.

On New Delhi Railway Station stampede, NDRF Commandant Daulat Ram Chaudhary said: "Situation is normal now. All the injured have been evacuated. We received preliminary information from police control room that stampede broke out in Magadh Express on Platform No. 14, after which we came here. By the time we came, the injured had already been evacuated."

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva visited New Delhi Railway Station and LNJP Hospital. Virendra Sachdeva stated that Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has spoken to doctors and officials and has given appropriate instructions. The Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government has deployed a large medical team on duty at various hospitals, and the Railways has arranged three special trains for Prayagraj.

Delhi's caretaker CM & AAP leader Atishi said, "Those who lost their lives, their families have been informed. It's a sad incident. Our two MLAs are here. I have asked hospital management to let our MLAs know if any of the victim's families need any kind of help. 4-5 patients will be discharged soon... 15 people were brought dead to the LNJP hospital, and the same number of injured are also admitted here...Two of the bodies are yet to be identified."

Commandant of NDRF Daulat Ram Chaudhary said, "The situation is under control now. The injured have been evacuated. We received information about a stampede at platform no 14 at the station...We are carrying out the rescue operations."

While Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw denied reports of a stampede, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh referred to the incident as a "stampede" in his message. Expressing his condolences, Singh tweeted, “Devastating news from New Delhi Railway Station. I am extremely pained by the loss of lives due to the stampede on the railway platform. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.” The conflicting statements have added to the complexity of the situation.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw ordered a high-level investigation into the incident and arranged four special trains to manage the unprecedented crowd, with more on standby. In a tweet, he confirmed, “4 special trains to evacuate this unprecedented sudden rush at NDLS. The rush has now reduced.” The minister denied reports of a stampede but emphasized the need for an inquiry into the incident.
